HYBRIDS
Made by an unlikely combination of materials, these sculptural forms bring to mind textural surfaces exposed by weathering, erosion and deconstruction.
Hybrid objects sit between object and painting. A reaction to the constant rearrangement of the cityscape and remnants of the past left behind — perfect as an artistic décor accent for living spaces, offices, or galleries. Ready to hang/display. One-of-a-kind look.
About the Artist
Shirley Nette Williams is a multi-disciplinary artist with a background in fashion design, texture is integral to her process. Her work is heavily focused on the exploration of form and texture, combining the two to create abstract and detailed pieces influenced by my surroundings. She finds particular interest in the unconventional and beauty in the unattractive.
Shirley’s sculptural objects have a raw quality, often described as resembling ‘something that’s been dug out of the ground’. An intuitive response to the constant development and rearranging of the cityscape. Physical locations are a catalyst for reflection and exploration into themes of memory, texture and materiality.
Working in reverse, layers of intrigue are built  inspired by weathering, erosion and deconstruction. In a collage-like approach to studio practice, remnants and leftover materials from previous projects are often integrated into my work, creating an organic aesthetic. Interrupted surfaces possess a raw, tactile quality celebrating, ruptures, recesses, scratches, scuffs and cracks.
